There are so many different approached we as entrepreneurs can take to make a sale. So why is it that we so often get stuck in a rut of one sales technique?
Our main sales approach can do a great job of making some bank, it may feel fun or comfortable. All of this is of course really positive stuff, however, my top tip for you today though is to remember to switch up your sales approach once in a while and tune back into your dream customer.
You’re in the habit of creating monthly live product launches for your audience. They generate a lot of excitement and energy but require high levels of continued focus and a strict cycle to stick to.
Maybe you want a little more freedom in your month?
Perhaps there’s another part of your business that you’d like to focus on for a few months and you need the time and energy to put into that?
You’re getting clients, but they are quite the right fit. You have a ‘dream customer’ in mind but where are they?
Or you might just feel bored of your current selling cycle!
It’s time to switch the tracks of your selling and try a fresh approach.
One of my favourite tools for freshening up my selling is to fully utilise market research as an opportunity to maximise your knowledge of your dream customer.
When I really tuned into the opportunities within taking a considered and close look at my ‘market’ it opened up so many doors for my business.
Sometimes we need to push the brakes on our current selling style in order to recentre our dream customer and some in-depth market research is 100% the best way to achieve this.
There are two key methods within my market research approach:
Send out a detailed survey to your audience and then a direct follow-up message to the people whose answers match the kind of client professions you’re keen to work with. Ask engaging questions about who they are, their desires, needs, goals and budgets! You can ask anything that will be directly relevant to you and your brand. Think carefully about what questions you want to ask and make sure that each of them will be valuable to you (there’s no point asking fluffy questions that serve no purpose!).
Speak to dream customers on the phone and spend time really listening to their desires and needs. Promote the call on Instagram, via friends and family, or via your email community and invite people to speak to you for your brand research. Be sure to tailor who you select to fit your profile of dream customers.
Both the survey and the phone call approach might require you to warm up your audience a little. Why not offer a discount on your products for those who get involved?
You’ll hear directly from the people you really want to work with and be able to find out exactly what their needs are. You’ll be able to more effectively tailor your message and offers to them which will increase their buying potential.
AND
With the right approach and attitude during the call, you’ll build valuable rapport. If the time feels appropriate you’ll also be able to seamlessly offer your own products. By offering in this way you’ll get instant feedback if it’s right or not for the client.
Here’s a couple of bonus tips on selling over the phone:
